Gem-Eyed Starfish

Names: "Staryu"

Habitat: the Seafoam Islands

Size: up to 2 ft 7 in, 76.1 lbs

Diet: clams, worms, crustaceans, sponges, soft corals, algae, and encrusting organisms found in the substrate


A rare, golden-brown echinoderm, the Gem-Eyed Starfish has five regenerable appendages and lives on sea floors. The center of this animal—called the "core"—contains a singular, essential organ. Responsible for its restorative ability, the core resembles a shimmering, gold casing with a red gem in the middle; this formation grips its appendages, with a loop tightly bound around one leg. As long as the center section is unharmed, it can grow back fully even if it is chopped to bits.


While this creature's core is always at least faintly glowing, when the sun sets, it shines its brightest. Sometimes when stars are visible in the summer, these starfish float to the surface and align themselves with the celestial bodies.
